Description For Software Development Engineer, AWS Direct Connect Control Plane

AWS Infrastructure Services is seeking a Software Development Engineer to join their AWS Direct Connect Control Plane team. This role is crucial in designing, developing, and supporting features within the AWS Direct Connect service, which enables customers to establish dedicated network connections from their premises to AWS cloud. AWS Direct Connect operates in over 91 locations across 28 countries, helping customers reduce network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, and provide consistent network experience.

The position involves working with large-scale distributed systems in a fast-paced environment. You'll be part of a team that owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, essentially keeping the cloud running. The role requires collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams to build innovative solutions that support critical workloads at massive scale.

As a team member, you'll contribute to the long-term vision of AWS Direct Connect, working on both data plane and control plane software, network design, and implementation. The role demands strong problem-solving skills, operational excellence, and the ability to mentor peers. You'll be responsible for identifying and resolving issues, conducting deep dives for large-scale events, and delivering high-quality documentation and corrective actions.

  • Design, implement, and operate features to put features into customers' hands quickly
  • Build distributed systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage/use
  • Create solutions to run predictions on distributed systems
  • Define and achieve performance metrics
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support the services
  • Mentor teammates and help them grow
  • Work with engineering teams on data plane and control plane software
  • Identify and troubleshoot recurring issues
