Description For Software Development Engineer, Geospatial

The Amazon Last Mile Geospatial team is at the forefront of building sophisticated systems that model the real world for driver routing optimization. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining crucial infrastructure including base map data, road network data, map tiles, address geocoding, and time estimation services. The role involves creating innovative solutions for complex challenges in location-based services, particularly focused on last-mile delivery optimization.

The team's mission goes beyond traditional mapping services, diving deep into specialized requirements like identifying specific delivery points within buildings (such as mailing rooms) and accurately estimating delivery times considering various factors. The position offers opportunities to work on cutting-edge problems including automatic road detection from sensor data, road network graph updates, and mobile device optimization for routing calculations.

As a Software Development Engineer on this team, you'll be working with state-of-the-art technology to solve unique challenges in the geospatial domain. The role requires expertise in large-scale system design, strong programming skills, and the ability to work with complex algorithms. You'll be contributing to systems that directly impact Amazon's delivery efficiency and customer experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for engineers who are passionate about solving complex technical challenges, enjoy working with spatial data and algorithms, and want to make a significant impact on Amazon's logistics infrastructure. The role offers exposure to various aspects of software engineering, from backend services to mobile optimization, and from theoretical computer science to practical system design.
