Project Kuiper is Amazon's ambitious initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites, aimed at providing high-speed broadband internet to underserved communities worldwide. As a Sr. Embedded Software Development Engineer for the Kuiper MAC team, you'll be at the forefront of developing critical satellite payload software that enables radio link connectivity between satellites, customer-terminals, and ground-based internet gateways.
In this role, you'll be responsible for architecting and implementing essential functions including commanding, telemetry, power control, hardware interfaces, and autonomous capabilities that manage satellites throughout their entire lifecycle - from launch to de-orbit. You'll work with cutting-edge embedded systems, writing software in languages like C, C++, or RUST to control sophisticated silicon devices using various communication protocols including Interlaken SerDes, JESD, PCIe, and others.
The position requires expertise in high-reliability embedded software development, as you'll be ensuring exceptional system reliability and availability. You'll collaborate closely with hardware teams on board design, verification, and integration, while also debugging complex issues at the intersection of hardware, FPGA, firmware, and software on multicore SOCs.
This is an opportunity to join a team that's pushing the boundaries of space-based systems design, focusing on creating highly reliable, power-efficient, and cost-effective satellite avionics and communication systems. The team handles critical payload functions including power management, hardware interfaces, command & telemetry, operational state management, and thermal management.
The role offers competitive compensation ranging from $151,300 to $261,500 per year, depending on location, plus additional benefits including equity, sign-on payments, and comprehensive medical coverage. Due to export control requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or legally admitted refugees/asylees.
