Description For System Development Engineer, Regional Border Operations

AWS Global Connectivity and Network Availability (GCNA) Organization is seeking a System Development Engineer to join their Backbone Enterprise and Regional Engineering (BERE) team. This role is crucial in managing and developing the infrastructure that connects AWS's global network, focusing on internet traffic management that enables worldwide user access to information and applications.

The position involves working with cutting-edge technologies and optimizing existing systems within one of the world's largest network infrastructures. As a System Development Engineer, you'll be responsible for creating and implementing network automation, leading critical projects in network engineering, and ensuring the smooth operation of AWS's next-generation networks.

The role sits within AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS), which owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The BERE organization specifically handles the design, implementation, and operations of networking infrastructure that provides global connectivity between AWS Regions and edge locations. This network grows by 70% annually, requiring innovative solutions to complex challenges at unprecedented scale.

Key responsibilities include developing automation for network routing and configurations, partnering with broader infrastructure teams, maintaining networking standards, and providing critical support for large-scale networking events. You'll work with various technologies and tools, implementing sustainable solutions that consider customer needs from cost, performance, and reliability perspectives.

  • Create and implement automation changes on the network
  • Lead network projects in areas of network sustaining engineering, implementation, scaling, and optimization
  • Sustain AWS next generation networks by providing critical support
  • Develop automation for network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, and configurations
  • Partner with broader Network/Infrastructure organization
  • Maintain standards across the networking toolset
  • Create and review documentation and processes
