Description For Systems Development Engineer, Managed Operations

AWS is launching its first European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a groundbreaking development in utility computing. This role within the AWS Managed Operations team is crucial for building and leading operations and development teams focused on high-availability AWS services like EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, specifically for EU customers.

The position combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic service development. You'll be at the forefront of launching the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams to shape the future of AWS services. Daily responsibilities include working with technology leaders, enhancing operations, and ensuring optimal service performance across availability, reliability, latency, and efficiency metrics.

As part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), you'll support core services that define AWS's industry leadership. The role requires participation in on-call rotations and demands a balance between operational excellence and long-term engineering improvements. You'll be joining a team that values diverse experiences and fosters an inclusive culture through employee-led affinity groups and continuous learning opportunities.

Responsibilities For Systems Development Engineer, Managed Operations

  • Oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025
  • Work closely with global AWS teams and influence AWS services evolution
  • Enhance day-to-day operations for availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency
  • Participate in on-call rotations for incident resolution
  • Support development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services
  • Balance daily operations with long-term software engineering to reduce operational toil

Requirements For Systems Development Engineer, Managed Operations

  • 3+ years of experience in software development with proficiency in Java, Typescript, Python, or Ruby
  • 3+ years of experience with Linux, command line, basic administration, and networking fundamentals
  • Ability to troubleshoot at all levels from network to operating systems to software applications
  • Experience supporting cloud systems or other services
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and anticipating performance and reliability issues
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Legal right to work in Ireland
