Description For Systems Development Engineer, Managed Operations

AWS is launching its first European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a groundbreaking development in utility computing. This role within the AWS Managed Operations team is crucial for building and leading operations and development teams focused on high-availability AWS services specifically for EU customers. The position involves working with core AWS services like EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock.

As a Systems Development Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of the ESC launch in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams to shape the evolution of AWS services. Your daily responsibilities will include working with technology leaders, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring optimal service performance metrics including availability, reliability, and latency.

The role requires participation in on-call rotations for incident management and combines hands-on operations work with strategic engineering initiatives to reduce operational complexity. You'll be part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which drives product innovations from foundational services to cutting-edge features that distinguish AWS in the industry.

  • Oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025

  • Participate in on-call rotations for out-of-hours incident resolution

Requirements For Systems Development Engineer, Managed Operations

  • 3+ years of experience in software development with proficiency in Java, Typescript, Python, or Ruby
  • 3+ years of experience with Linux, command line, basic administration, and networking fundamentals
  • Ability to troubleshoot at all levels from network to operating systems to software applications

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and anticipating problems affecting system performance
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Legal right to work in Ireland
