As a Staff AI Engineer, you'll lead the technical direction of their AI team, focusing on clinical LLMs and speech technology. The role combines strategic planning with hands-on development, requiring collaboration with clinicians and other team members to transform research into production solutions. You'll work in their San Francisco office 3 days per week, building trustworthy evaluation systems, driving quality improvements, and staying at the forefront of AI innovation. Responsibilities For Staff AI Engineer (Clinical LLMs & Speech)
- Co-author and execute 12-month AI roadmap
- Build automated evaluation pipeline for offline metrics and clinician feedback
- Prototype and A/B-test model improvements
- Launch active-learning loop for clinical examples
- Stay current with AI research in LLMs, NLP, and speech recognition
- Champion innovative experiments
Requirements For Staff AI Engineer (Clinical LLMs & Speech)
- 7+ years in production ML or research engineering role
- Mastery of modern neural networks and advanced evaluation techniques
- Experience with LLMs (applied or research)
- Proficient in Python and major deep learning framework (PyTorch preferred)
- Experience with MLOps, CI/CD for ML, and containerization
- Experience building and maintaining large, high-quality datasets
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work with clinicians, product managers, and engineers
