The AIML Information Intelligence team at Apple is at the forefront of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing innovation. We're developing groundbreaking technologies that power search features across Apple products including Siri, Spotlight, Safari, Messages, and Lookup. Our team is particularly focused on state-of-the-art generative AI technologies using Large Language Models for both device-based and cloud services.
As a Machine Learning Engineer/Scientist, you'll work on large-scale machine learning and deep learning to enhance Open Domain Question Answering capabilities. Your role involves developing sophisticated machine learning models and LLMs to understand user queries, perform document retrieval and ranking, and synthesize information to provide accurate, intent-driven answers.
You'll collaborate with researchers and data scientists to develop, fine-tune, and evaluate domain-specific Large Language Models for various Apple AI-powered products. The role offers the unique opportunity to translate cutting-edge generative AI research into production-ready technologies that impact hundreds of millions of users.
The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $175,800 to $312,200 base pay, plus additional benefits including stock options, comprehensive healthcare, retirement benefits, and education reimbursement. You'll be working with a fast-paced team in Cupertino, contributing to groundbreaking AI features while having the opportunity to shape upcoming Apple products.
Key technical areas include search ranking, relevance optimization, LLM development, distributed computing with Spark/Hadoop, and integration with major Apple products. Responsibilities For AIML - Machine Learning Engineer/Scientist, Siri and Information Intelligence
- Analyzing search ranking and relevance requirements, issues and opportunities
- Developing, fine-tuning, and evaluating domain-specific Large Language Models
- Conducting applied research in generative AI
- Understanding product requirements and translating them into modeling tasks
- Building machine learned models for question answering and search relevance
- Integrating search functions into Apple products
- Building end-to-end production systems
- Utilizing Spark, Hadoop MapReduce, Hive, Impala for distributed data processing
Requirements For AIML - Machine Learning Engineer/Scientist, Siri and Information Intelligence
- Experience in machine learning, deep learning/LLM, information retrieval, natural language processing
- Experience of prompt engineering, fine-tuning, evaluating, and developing data collection/annotation/management tooling for LLMs
- Proficiency in Python and at least one of following languages: Go, Java, C++
- Excellent knowledge and good practical skills in major machine learning algorithms
- Excellent data analytical skills
- Good interpersonal skills and team player
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Data Science or related field (preferred)
