Description For Battery Cell Engineer

Apple's Battery Engineering group is at the forefront of developing innovative battery solutions that maximize energy capacity in compact spaces. As a Battery Cell Engineer, you'll be integral to the Battery Product Development team, which creates high-energy and reliable embedded battery systems across all Apple products. The role involves close collaboration with Product Development, Operations, Industrial Design, and Reliability Testing groups, overseeing battery module development from initial architecture through production ramp.

You'll work on engineering design and qualification of new lithium rechargeable cell designs, developing specifications that meet rigorous application requirements. The position requires interaction with suppliers, conducting investigations, and researching advanced technologies for next-generation cell designs. You'll also contribute to intellectual property development to maintain Apple's competitive edge in battery technology.

Responsibilities For Battery Cell Engineer

  • Participate in engineering design and qualification efforts for new lithium rechargeable cell designs
  • Develop performance specifications and cell design details
  • Work with suppliers and support staff to ensure new product designs are developed on time and budget
  • Conduct investigations and prepare status reports for problems or issues
  • Research literature and industry for advanced technologies
  • Pursue development of intellectual property to protect technology developments

Requirements For Battery Cell Engineer

  • BS degree
  • 3+ years relevant research / industry experience
  • Advanced degree (PhD) in Material Science, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related
  • Experience with battery materials and cell design development
  • Hands-on experience in battery assembly, teardown, testing, characterization and diagnostics
  • Familiarity with applicable test procedures, international standards, and certified agency requirements
  • Familiarity with current innovative production processes applicable to lithium rechargeable cells
  • Experience with production of lithium batteries including statistical analysis
