Description For Data Center Cluster Architect

Apple's Datacenter Systems Architecture team is seeking an exceptional Cluster Architect to lead the design and optimization of computer architectures for high-performance computing clusters. This role represents a unique opportunity to shape the future of datacenter infrastructure at one of the world's most innovative technology companies.

As a Data Center Cluster Architect, you'll be at the forefront of designing and implementing sophisticated cluster architectures that power AI/ML workloads. The position demands expertise in complex system architectures, networking protocols, and cross-functional collaboration. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies including high-density mesh networks, specialized compute units (GPUs, TPUs), and advanced networking protocols.

Responsibilities For Data Center Cluster Architect

  • Design and optimize computer architectures for high-performance computing (HPC) clusters
  • Define rack and cluster capabilities, configurations, and scale out requirements
  • Create optimized network designs for large-scale AI/ML clusters
  • Influence networking hardware and software components selection
  • Analyze network traffic patterns and implement strategies to improve data transfer speeds
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for performant scalable deployments
  • Define and develop tools, scripts, automation for system analysis
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Occasional domestic and international travel

Requirements For Data Center Cluster Architect

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with 10+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong technical breadth across computer subsystem technologies (CPU, GPU, TPU, storage, memory, power delivery, power management, high speed networking, I/O, thermal management)
  • Core competence in architecting complex system architectures for general purpose compute or specialty compute systems
  • Understanding of HW/FW/SW layers interaction in system design
  • Ability to create, review and approve engineering requirement specification documents
