Description For Firmware Engineer – AirPods and Accessories

Apple's AirPods and Accessories Firmware team is seeking a talented Firmware Engineer to help develop the next generation of innovative audio and accessory products. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge embedded systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

As a Firmware Engineer, you'll be responsible for developing and delivering system and product firmware for Apple's audio and accessory products. You'll work across various technologies, from low-level system architecture to product-specific features, and have the opportunity to influence future product designs.

Key responsibilities include collaborating with marketing and engineering teams to define product features, implementing embedded C/C++ code for various MCUs, designing system architectures, and supporting hardware prototyping and debugging. You'll also create test tools and enable new hardware technology evaluation.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of firmware or embedded software development experience, strong C/C++ programming skills, and deep knowledge of embedded systems. Experience with audio, DSP, or Bluetooth technologies is preferred.

Responsibilities For Firmware Engineer – AirPods and Accessories

  • Collaborating with marketing and cross-functional engineering teams to define product features and requirements
  • Designing, implementing, debugging, and testing embedded C/C++ code running on 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit MCUs
  • Defining system architecture to implement new products and product features
  • Supporting electrical bring-up and debugging of prototype hardware
  • Creating test tools to enable the expansion of product ecosystem features
  • Providing software to enable the prototyping and evaluation of new hardware technologies and designs
  • Supporting product development activities at partner facilities locally and abroad

Requirements For Firmware Engineer – AirPods and Accessories

  • 5+ years of proven excellence in firmware, embedded SW, embedded product development, or equivalent experience
  • Solid C/C++ coding abilities
  • Strong embedded system design and software debugging skills
  • Experience with MCUs, peripherals, features, and development environments
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills
  • Passion for product ownership and track record of product development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • BS or M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
