Description For Airflow Reliability Engineer

Astronomer is seeking an Airflow Reliability Engineer to join their Customer Reliability Engineering (CRE) team. This role offers a unique opportunity to become an Apache Airflow expert while working directly with industry leaders. As part of the CRE team, you'll provide crucial support to sophisticated organizations, helping them maintain mission-critical Airflow implementations.

The position combines deep technical expertise with customer-facing responsibilities, requiring both strong engineering skills and excellent communication abilities. You'll work with modern, cloud-native technologies, gaining extensive experience across multiple disciplines including data engineering, Kubernetes, and cloud engineering.

The role involves solving complex Airflow problems, contributing to open-source projects, and developing internal systems. You'll have the chance to work with various customer teams, from data engineers to management, while helping shape the direction of the Airflow project. The position offers competitive compensation ($130,000-$160,000 plus equity) and the flexibility of remote work.

Responsibilities For Airflow Reliability Engineer

  • Provide Apache Airflow expertise directly to customers
  • Help customers make the best possible use of managed Airflow service
  • Solve challenging Airflow problems for customers
  • Work on side projects contributing to Astronomer's success
  • Contribute to open-source Airflow repository
  • Develop internal monitoring and alerting systems
  • Work directly with customers' technical teams
  • Provide feedback to shape Airflow project direction
  • Own the customer experience and meet SLAs
  • Maintain 24x7 coverage during specified work hours
  • Participate in paid on-call rotation for weekend coverage

Requirements For Airflow Reliability Engineer

  • Four years of professional experience (any industry)
  • Proven proficiency in Python, with a minimum of two years of experience
  • Experience with Kubernetes/Docker/Containers
  • Experience working with a distributed system with any major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Work well with autonomy and independence
  • Strong written and verbal communication
