Description For Communications Systems/DSP Design Engineer

Broadcom, a global technology leader in semiconductor and infrastructure software solutions, is seeking a Communications Systems/DSP Design Engineer for their San Jose, CA location. This role requires expertise in end-to-end fixed point communication systems and DSP System Design Engineering for fiber optic physical transceiver products. The ideal candidate will join a team of highly competent system and ASIC designers involved in architecture design, verification, and implementation of advanced signal processing algorithms for high-speed data communication networks.

Key responsibilities include developing specifications and architectures for signal processing algorithms, defining chip requirements, conducting system modeling and simulations, and performing lab testing and debugging of ASICs. The role also involves customer support and documentation development.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience (or equivalent combinations of education and experience), strong knowledge in Communication Theory and Digital Signal Processing algorithms, and proficiency in tools like MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, Python, Unix, and Linux. Experience with high-performance ASIC-based products and a working knowledge of analog circuits and transmission line theory are highly desirable.

Responsibilities For Communications Systems/DSP Design Engineer

  • Develop specification, architecture, and micro-architecture of signal processing and communications algorithms
  • Define and document chip requirements, architecture, verification and lab test plan
  • Bit-exact MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++/Java system modeling and simulation
  • Develop and run system level simulation suites of the transceiver and perform vector matching verification with RTL simulations
  • Lab testing and debug of ASICs
  • Documentation/application note development and customer support

  • Knowledge in Communication Theory
  • Knowledge in Digital Signal Processing algorithms

  • Experience architecting communications systems for high performance ASIC based products is highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of analog circuit behavior
  • Working knowledge of transmission line theory and s-parameters
  • Good hands-on skills in the lab
  • Hands-on experience debugging optical, copper, or wireless links
  • RTL coding expertise is a plus
