System Engineer, Netsys

Cloudflare is seeking a System Engineer, Netsys to join their Network Engineering Team. This role is part of a team building software solutions to improve network resilience and reduce engineering operational toil. The ideal candidate will work on a range of tools, infrastructure, and services, both new and existing, to deliver practical, maintainable, and scalable solutions.

Cloudflare operates a large global network spanning hundreds of cities (data centers). The company's mission is to help build a better Internet, protecting and accelerating any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing automation tools and frameworks
• Managing and improving network infrastructure
• Building and maintaining large distributed systems
• Implementing CI/CD pipelines and working with containers/virtualization

The ideal candidate should have:

• BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Solid foundation in configuration management frameworks (Ansible, Chef, Saltstack)
• Proficiency in programming languages like Python or Golang
• Strong knowledge of modern Unix/Linux operating systems/distributions
• Experience with CI/CD, containers, virtualization, web servers, and databases
• Skills in systems observability

Bonus skills include:

• Professional experience as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)
• Knowledge of networking engineering, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols
• Experience managing customer requirements and expectations
• Knowledge of JavaScript (React and other frontend frameworks)
