Description For Software Engineer II

On any given day at Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, we're reimagining ways to create magical viewing experiences for the world's most beloved stories while also transforming Disney's media business for the future. The Content Experience Delivery organization is composed of teams on a mission to deliver the best browse experience to our viewers across all of the Disney Streaming brands.

The Experience Data Distribution (EDD) team is central to that mission: we build the core data services and APIs that power the applications and services used by Disney Streaming subscribers around the world. Our challenge is to provide low latency and high availability at scale for millions of users, with an interface that can keep up with our constantly-growing streaming applications.

As a Software Engineer II, you will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and product managers to find the best solution for our viewers. Your code is easy to read, well-tested, and applies best practices. Your documentation is clear and concise. You value good-faith collaboration and having excellent relationships with our partner teams.

The role offers competitive compensation with a base pay range of $114,900 to $161,300 per year depending on location, plus potential bonus and long-term incentives, along with comprehensive benefits including medical coverage, 401k, and equity opportunities.

Responsibilities For Software Engineer II

  • Write code to implement new features or optimize existing services
  • Test code through various means: unit tests, integration tests, performance tests
  • Actively participate in daily stand-ups and other scrum ceremonies
  • Collaborate with team members to design new solutions
  • Participate in the breakdown and estimation of tasks
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for tier-1 critical services
  • Follow industrial best practices for service operations
  • Perform code reviews for members of the team

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience crafting and operating backend services
  • Strong programming skills in object-oriented languages (e.g. Java)
  • Knowledge of caching technologies
  • Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals
  • Strong understanding of design patterns and principles
  • Knowledge of asynchronous programming
  • Knowledge of source control systems and CI/CD pipelines
