Design Engineer

Empirical Health is revolutionizing primary care through AI and wearable technology. As a Design Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of building their patient-facing mobile app, creating intuitive data visualizations and AI-driven interfaces that directly impact patient health outcomes.

The role combines strong UI engineering with thoughtful design, requiring expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript and React/React Native. You'll craft features like health score visualizations, GenAI UI patterns, and cost-comparison flows for medical procedures. The position demands both technical excellence and design sensibility.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing intuitive data visualizations for patient health metrics
• Designing and implementing AI interface patterns
• Building features for condition-specific care plans
• Creating user flows for medical decision-making
• Shipping production code within the first week

Technical requirements:

• Strong TypeScript/JavaScript and React/React Native skills
• Excellence in interaction design and data visualization
• Solid foundation in software engineering practices
• Experience with mobile interface design is a plus
• Healthcare/bioinformatics knowledge helpful but not required

The team is intentionally small (4 people) and values quick iteration and real impact. You'll work directly with doctors and patients, using technology to make healthcare more accessible and effective. The position is based in New York City (Union Square) with some flexibility for hybrid work.
