Description For Machine Learning Engineer, Gemini Safety

Google DeepMind is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join their Gemini Safety team in Zurich. This role focuses on improving the safety and alignment of the Gemini end-user product, specifically working with large language models across multiple modalities (text, images, audio). The position involves developing innovative approaches in RLHF/RL*F, model evaluation, and understanding, with a particular emphasis on safety and alignment.

The ideal candidate will have strong engineering and research capabilities, with at least 3 years of experience in ML modeling and generative AI. They should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, driving ambitious projects from conception to completion. Responsibilities For Machine Learning Engineer, Gemini Safety

  • Apply and innovate on state-of-the-art modeling techniques for reducing safety violations and increasing human alignment
  • Collaborate with peers and cross-functional research teams on applying ML approaches to LLM-based products
  • Propose and quickly prototype novel ideas and implement advances in Gemini's production systems
  • Drive ambiguous projects end-to-end to push the boundaries of Safety and Alignment on LLMs

Requirements For Machine Learning Engineer, Gemini Safety

Python
  • MSc degree in computer science or machine learning or similar experience working in industry
  • 3+ years of experience with ML modeling and generative AI
  • Proven knowledge and experience of Python, machine learning frameworks (Jax, TensorFlow, or PyTorch)
  • Knowledge of algorithms and data structures
  • Ability to grow in high-stakes, high-visibility environments
