Description For Data Center Technician II, Technical Operations

Google is seeking a Data Center Technician II to join their Hardware Operations team in Kansas City. This role is crucial in maintaining Google's state-of-the-art physical infrastructure that powers their search technology and various services. As a Data Center Technician, you'll be at the forefront of computer technology, working with cutting-edge infrastructure.

The position involves hands-on work with server hardware, including installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of both hardware components and server software, particularly Google's Linux cluster. You'll also work with complex networking components such as routers, hubs, bridges, and switches. The role requires physical capability as it involves manual movement and installation of racks, making it somewhat physically demanding but exciting for those interested in infrastructure work.

Responsibilities For Data Center Technician II, Technical Operations

  • Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions
  • Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues
  • Maintain the security and integrity of data
  • Disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life
  • Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure

Requirements For Data Center Technician II, Technical Operations

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols
  • Experience with performing component-level repairs on IT equipment
  • Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays and shifts
  • 2 years of experience preferred in diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment
