As a Staff Data Engineer at Hydrosat, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the company's technical direction and data infrastructure. The position combines hands-on development with technical leadership, requiring expertise in designing and implementing sophisticated data pipelines using modern cloud technologies. You'll be responsible for making key architectural decisions, optimizing cloud infrastructure, and scaling data solutions to support real-time analytics.

The role demands a blend of technical excellence and leadership skills, as you'll be mentoring other data engineers, conducting code reviews, and establishing best practices. Working in their Luxembourg office, you'll collaborate closely with Science, Product, and Customer Success teams to drive data-driven decision-making and innovation.

Responsibilities For Staff Data Engineer

  • Setting the technical direction while encouraging collaboration
  • Leading proposals on data architecture, design, and implementation
  • Ensuring the technical and schedule feasibility of projects
  • Leading code reviews and ensuring best practices are followed
  • Developing and maintaining data pipelines
  • Debugging and resolving complex technical issues
  • Optimizing performance and scalability of data pipelines
  • Providing technical guidance and support to team members
  • Assisting other team members with difficult problems
  • Sharing knowledge and expertise through workshops or presentations
  • Working closely with product/project managers to understand requirements
  • Collaborating with other teams on cross-functional projects
  • Ensuring alignment between technical and business objectives

Requirements For Staff Data Engineer

Kubernetes
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
  • 10+ years of data engineering experience
  • Proficiency in designing scalable, efficient, and maintainable data pipelines and architecture
  • Experience in building and managing ETL workflows for data extraction, transformation, and loading
  • Experience with orchestration frameworks to automate and monitor workflows, such as Apache Airflow or Dagster
  • Experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines
  • Highly self-motivated, keen learner able to solve challenging problems with creative solutions
  • Strong team player with demonstrated ability to take ownership and drive execution
  • Experience with setting up and maintaining cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS)
  • Experience with provisioning and maintaining Kubernetes clusters
  • Understanding of MLOps best practices for monitoring, versioning, and maintaining models in production
  • Experience in Earth observation, AI, geospatial, imaging science, or computer vision fields
