Description For Associate Pipeline Technical Director

Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), founded by George Lucas in 1975, is seeking an Associate Pipeline Technical Director to join their Mumbai team. This role sits at the intersection of technology and creativity, supporting the world's leading visual effects facility that has contributed to many of the highest-grossing films ever made.

The position involves developing and maintaining software tools while providing crucial front-line support to artists in a fast-paced, feature film visual effects production environment. You'll be responsible for ensuring artist efficiency through pipeline development, troubleshooting, and problem-solving across various disciplines.

As an Associate Pipeline TD, you'll work closely with show CG Supervisors for daily direction while reporting to R&D supervisors for technical and career guidance. The role requires strong Python scripting skills, Linux proficiency, and experience with major 3D software packages like Maya, Nuke, or Houdini.

Responsibilities For Associate Pipeline Technical Director

  • Develop pipeline and asset management tools for production demands
  • Provide front-line production assistance and troubleshooting
  • Monitor and resolve user errors and technical issues
  • Test and validate tools and techniques in production
  • Act as an on-call resource for show production staff
  • Work on workflow tools and maintain existing scripts
  • Update documentation for pipeline and tools
  • Work closely with engineering teams in testing and releasing software systems

Requirements For Associate Pipeline Technical Director

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related technical field
  • At least 2 years production experience in visual effects for film, commercials or television
  • Proficiency in Linux
  • Advanced Python scripting
  • Experience in Maya, Nuke, Houdini, Mari, Katana, RenderMan or similar
  • Thorough understanding of visual effects process
  • Detail oriented and strong self-sufficient troubleshooter
  • Ability to communicate cross-discipline
