LinkedIn, the world's leading professional networking platform, is seeking a Director of Software Engineering for their Machine Learning team in Bengaluru. This role sits within the Trust organization, which is crucial in maintaining LinkedIn as a safe and trusted platform through cutting-edge AI technology.
The position offers an exciting opportunity to lead the entire Content Abuse Engineering charter, encompassing both the AI team that builds models to prevent and detect violating content, and the Apps Engineering team that develops end-to-end engineering solutions for content moderation.
As Director, you'll be responsible for leading multiple strategic initiatives including embedding-based retrieval, generative AI, AI productivity, and core foundational models. You'll manage a team of AI and apps engineers, working closely with cross-functional leads to define and execute both near-term and long-term roadmaps for content moderation.
The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of experience in machine learning, particularly in areas like NLP, computer vision, or large language models, along with 10+ years of people management experience. You should have a strong academic background (MS/PhD in Computer Science or AI) and proven expertise in managing large engineering teams (30+ individuals).
This is a hybrid role based in Bangalore, offering the flexibility to work both from home and office. - Lead the Content Abuse Engineering charter including AI team and Apps Engineering

Requirements For Director, Software Engineering, Machine Learning
- 15+ years experience in machine learning, NLP, computer vision, generative AI, large language models, or similar areas
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or related engineering experience
- 10+ years experience in people management
- 5+ years managing teams of 30+ individuals and first-line managers
- Strong background in machine learning and data mining techniques
- Good understanding of large scale engineering systems and big data technologies
- Experience in content moderation
- Strong leadership abilities and communication skills
- Proven track record of delivering end-to-end solutions for high QPS systems
