This is a pivotal leadership role where you'll be responsible for driving the technical direction and reliability of LinkedIn's critical infrastructure systems.
As the Director of SRE, you'll lead a substantial team of 40+ engineers, focusing on scaling and maintaining LinkedIn's streaming, batch processing, data lake, and online serving document store ecosystems. Your mission will be to ensure these systems meet evolving business needs while advancing the technical migration roadmap.
The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical expertise. You'll be instrumental in driving automation initiatives, reducing operational overhead, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Your team will be responsible for developing and implementing APIs for infrastructure lifecycle management and creating robust observability solutions.
The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of engineering leadership experience in DevOps roles, with deep expertise in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and modern DevOps practices. You should have a proven track record of building and leading large engineering teams, along with extensive experience in cloud platforms, container orchestration, and infrastructure automation.

Responsibilities For Director, Software Engineering, Site Reliability
- Set the strategic vision, technical direction and develop an execution roadmap for the organization
- Build and maintain a high-performing engineering team for SREs
- Drive APIs first approach for operations of infrastructure life cycle management
- Provide observability and deep actionable insights into infrastructure health and drift
- Lead a team of 40+ engineers focusing on scaling systems
- Drive automation and reduce operational toil

Requirements For Director, Software Engineering, Site Reliability
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 15+ years in Engineering leadership focused on dev/ops based roles leading teams of engineers of size 40+
- 8+ years of building software to simplifying operations and reducing toil in managing large scale infrastructure
- 8+ years experience in Cloud data infrastructure, Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Apache Hadoop infrastructure
- Proficiency in cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and monitoring tools
- Experience attracting, retaining, and developing top engineering talent
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
