Description For Director of Digital Transformation

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is seeking a Director of Digital Transformation to lead internal-facing digital initiatives within the Technology Innovation Department (TID). This role is crucial in applying modern principles of research, design, and technology to enhance the efficiency, equity, and safety of the MBTA's operations.

As the Director of Digital Transformation, you will be responsible for shaping the vision and strategy of the digital transformation program area. This includes overseeing a portfolio of modernization projects such as instructional design, critical event management, process improvement, and MBTA-wide information & technology strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Articulating and advocating for a vision of digital transformation that aligns with MBTA's objectives
  • Developing and executing strategies to implement this vision
  • Leading cross-functional teams and establishing product and project teams
  • Creating and managing long-term budgets and staffing plans
  • Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Identifying new opportunities for innovation and partnerships

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in digital transformation, experience with Service Design methodologies, and the ability to lead and inspire teams. You should be comfortable working in a hybrid environment and have excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with various departments and represent the MBTA in industry forums.

  • Develop and get institutional buy-in for the program area vision
  • Establish product and project teams
  • Maintain a strategy and plan for the execution of work
  • Create and execute on a long-term budget
  • Lead product and project teams responsible for execution
  • Manage people and set standards for quality of delivery
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead early-stage discovery, scoping, or refinement of new projects, pilots, or partnerships
  • Represent TID's work across the MBTA and MBTA's work within the industry
  • Contribute to and advance the overall MBTA technology strategy
