Description For Cloud Network Engineer

Microsoft's Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team is seeking a Cloud Network Engineer to join their world-class infrastructure team. This role combines network engineering expertise with cloud technologies, supporting Microsoft's massive global infrastructure of over 100 datacenters and 1 million servers. The position offers a unique opportunity to work on systems that power major platforms like Azure, Office 365, Xbox Live, and Bing, serving over 1 billion customers worldwide.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex network infrastructure at scale. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies, including SDN/NFV, EVPN VXLAN, and modern automation tools. The role requires strong expertise in Python programming and network automation, along with deep knowledge of enterprise networking solutions.

This is a remote-friendly position with up to 100% work from home flexibility, though some travel (0-25%) may be required. Responsibilities For Cloud Network Engineer

  • Perform technical analysis and lead network architecture design
  • Install, upgrade, and maintain network hardware and software
  • Participate in on-call DRI rotation
  • Troubleshoot and repair live site issues
  • Handle Layer 3 technologies (IPv4, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, IPv6, HSRP, VRRP)
  • Monitor network system state using tools like SNMP, Sflow/netflow, and Telemetry
  • Collaborate with IT staff and business personnel
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to less experienced staff

Requirements For Cloud Network Engineer

Python
Linux
  • Experience in at least one programming language (preferably Python and APIs)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
  • Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or related field
  • Experience with network authentication systems
  • Industry certifications (CCNP or CCIE Route & Switch)
  • Strong foundation in Python programming and APIs
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud background check
