Description For Cloud Network Engineer II

Microsoft Digital (MSD) builds and manages the critical products and services that Microsoft runs on. We boldly pursue big ideas that power transformational advances at Microsoft and for our customers, while helping Microsoft teams work smarter, faster, and more securely every day. As a Cloud Network Engineer II, you will manage the global datacenter network infrastructure for highly secure environments, supporting some of the most critical Microsoft services. Your responsibilities will include daily operations, maintenance of these essential services, and the deployment of new technologies. An understanding of security technologies and service models related to datacenter networking is crucial to ensure that these foundational services are architected, designed, deployed, and maintained to the highest standards.

Responsibilities:

  1. Network Design and Implementation

    • Apply knowledge of networks, industry trends, and field data towards implementation and operations.
    • Create bill of materials and translate high-level design into low-level design for datacenter or network site development.
    • Participate in network design or code reviews.
  2. Maintain and Operate Networks

    • Monitor, analyze, debug, and troubleshoot network infrastructure.
    • Participate in on-call/Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) duties.
    • Create root cause analysis for network incidents.
    • Continuous improvement, testing, and validation of network devices.
    • Manage network deployments within a team of engineers.
    • Troubleshoot network routing protocols, TCP/UDP/HTTP(s), firewalls, load balancers, and overlay technologies.
    • Drive compliance against security objectives.
  3. Supporting People and Execution

    • Collaborate within and across teams, sharing information and resolving conflicts.
    • Mentor and provide feedback to other engineers while seeking mentorship and feedback.
    • Share ideas for improving team-oriented behaviors, including DevOps and live site handling skills.

Requirements For Cloud Network Engineer II

  • 5+ years technical experience in network engineering OR Bachelor's Degree in relevant field AND 2+ years technical experience OR Master's Degree in relevant field AND 1+ year(s) technical experience
  • 4+ years of technical experience with layer 2 analysis and troubleshooting TCP/IP routing & switching
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
  • Pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
