Description For Critical Environment Instrumentation Engineer (CEIE)

Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team is seeking a Critical Environment Instrumentation Engineer (CEIE) to join their datacenter operations team. This role is crucial in maintaining and managing the industrial control systems that power Microsoft's global datacenter infrastructure.

The position involves working in Microsoft's 24x7x365 mission-critical datacenters, which comprise over 200 facilities across 32 countries. As a CEIE, you'll be responsible for ensuring the reliability and security of industrial control systems that support Microsoft's cloud services, including Azure, Office 365, Bing, and Xbox.

Key responsibilities include maintaining ICS availability, managing site-level programs, governing access controls, and participating in global initiatives. The role requires a strong background in electrical and mechanical systems, with experience in industrial control systems and building automation.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least 2 years of technical experience. Knowledge of Modbus and BACnet protocols, along with experience in building electrical and mechanical systems, is essential. The position requires obtaining security clearances and passing background checks.

Responsibilities For Critical Environment Instrumentation Engineer (CEIE)

  • Maintaining Industrial Controls System (ICS) availability and security in Data Centers
  • Site level ICS program and project management
  • Managing and governing Microsoft's electrical and mechanical industrial control systems
  • Governing logical and physical access to ICS systems
  • Ensuring compliance with safety programs and policies
  • Developing relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders

Requirements For Critical Environment Instrumentation Engineer (CEIE)

Linux
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience
  • 1.5+ years experience in design/commissioning of Industrial Controls Systems (ICS)
  • 2+ years experience with building electrical systems and mechanical systems
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Must obtain and maintain Reliability Status security screening
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and blueprint interpretation
  • Experience with industrial control systems and building automation systems
