Description For Member of Technical Staff – Platform Engineer

Microsoft AI (MAI) is seeking experienced Platform Engineers to join their team building the next wave of capabilities for Copilot on Windows. This role is part of MAI, a newly formed organization dedicated to advancing Copilot and other consumer AI products and research, including Bing, Edge, and generative AI research.

As a Platform Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing and developing secure and performant Platform services that support Copilot experiences on Windows. You'll work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with platform, infrastructure, application engineers, and researchers to build next-generation AI products and services.

The position requires 4+ years of experience in building scalable services and distributed systems, with expertise in technologies like Python, Java, and cloud infrastructure. You'll be working with cutting-edge AI platforms and frameworks while ensuring high-quality, secure, and maintainable code delivery.

The role offers competitive compensation ranging from $117,200 to $267,000 base salary (higher in SF and NYC areas), along with comprehensive benefits including industry-leading healthcare, educational resources, and parental leave. This position requires being local to the Seattle area with 3 days per week in office.

Requirements For Member of Technical Staff – Platform Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 4 years technical engineering experience building applications including Python, C#, C++, RUST, Java
  • 4 years experience building scalable services on top of public cloud infrastructure like Azure, AWS, or GCP with extensive use of various datastores
  • 4 years experience building distributed systems at scale and extensive systems knowledge
  • Experience working with AI platforms, frameworks, and APIs
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues
  • Dedication to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
