Microsoft's Azure Fiber team is seeking a Principal Cloud Network Engineer to lead the strategic expansion and operational excellence of their global optical network infrastructure. This role is critical to Azure's mission of providing the physical platform that underpins Microsoft's cloud services, including Teams, Xbox, Office, Bing, and OpenAI's ChatGPT.

The position focuses on managing and enhancing both solid core and hollow core fiber networks, with a particular emphasis on implementing AI-based network management solutions and developing a comprehensive change management framework. Responsibilities For Principal Cloud Network Engineer, Azure Fiber

  • Monitor and maintain reliability and efficiency of solid core and hollow core fiber networks
  • Lead implementation of new change management framework
  • Integrate AI-based software tooling into operations and change management frameworks
  • Help integrate hollow core and solid core fiber technologies
  • Act as Designated Responsible Individual (DRI)
  • Work closely with senior engineers and team members
  • Create and document process and automation improvements
  • Monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions

Requirements For Principal Cloud Network Engineer, Azure Fiber

Kubernetes
  • 9+ years technical experience in optical network design, development, planning, operations and automation with background in fiber networks
  • 8+ years of technical experience on optical system or subsystem design, validation, and testing utilizing coherent, direct-detection, and WDM technologies
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
  • Bachelor's Degree in Optical Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
