Description For Engineering Architect

Microsoft's Azure Data engineering team is seeking an Engineering Architect to join their databases team. This role is part of the Azure Databases SQL Customer Success Engineering team, focusing on unblocking and accelerating complex Data Modernization engagements. The position requires deep expertise in SQL Server, Azure SQL, and database modernization, particularly with Sybase ASE & IQ migrations.

The role combines technical architecture, customer engagement, and engineering excellence. You'll be responsible for driving modernization initiatives, building high-performance SQL-based applications, and ensuring best practices in security and architecture. The position requires both hands-on technical skills and customer-facing abilities.

As an Engineering Architect, you'll work closely with feature PMs and Software Engineers to improve products and services, document technical best practices, and contribute to key engineering activities. The role involves working with Microsoft's operational Database systems, including Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, and other Azure data services.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in enterprise-scale data migration, strong development skills in languages like PowerShell and C#, and proven expertise in building distributed, low-latency applications. Responsibilities For Engineering Architect

  • Drive modernizations from Sybase ASE & IQ to Azure SQL
  • Build SQL based distributed, low latency, high throughput applications
  • Engage in customer facing complex engagements from PoCs to performance tuning
  • Work with feature PMs and Software Engineers to improve products and services
  • Document and share technical best practices and insights
  • Advise on best practice architectures for data solutions
  • Ensure security is front and center of all architecture proposals

Requirements For Engineering Architect

Java
Python
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL, Sybase, Oracle
  • Proven customer facing experience
  • Enterprise-scale data migration experience
  • Development experience with PowerShell, C# & C++
  • Experience in building distributed, low latency applications
  • Knowledge of replication solutions and 3rd party technologies
