Software Engineer, Infrastructure - Analytics

OpenAI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Scaling team, focusing on Infrastructure Analytics. This role is crucial in designing and building core systems that researchers rely on at OpenAI. The position offers a competitive salary range of $310K – $460K plus equity, and is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model (3 days in office).

The Scaling team's mission is to accelerate research progress towards AGI by building and maintaining critical infrastructure. As a Software Engineer in this role, you'll be working on distributed systems, data processing infrastructure, and operational excellence. You'll develop foundational backend services that power key OpenAI's research workflows, spanning observability, analytics, and performance engineering.

The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in Python/Rust and backend development, with significant experience in distributed systems and data processing infrastructure. Knowledge of technologies like Kafka, Spark, Trino/Presto, and Iceberg is valuable. The role requires hands-on experience with Kubernetes and familiarity with infrastructure tools like Terraform and Helm.
