Description For Platform Operations Engineer

Pico, a global leader in financial market infrastructure, is seeking a Platform Operations Engineer to join their team in Chicago. This role is crucial in designing and delivering top-tier server, storage, and trading platforms for both Pico's clients and internal infrastructure. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in the financial services sector, collaborating with tier-one banks and key clients.

The ideal candidate will be a solutions-oriented engineer with strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. You'll work closely with Account Management, Project Management, and Client Service Delivery teams, while also supporting the Service Operations (NOC) Team in handling escalations and knowledge transfer.

The role combines technical expertise in Linux systems, infrastructure management, and automation with the excitement of working in a fast-paced financial technology environment. You'll be responsible for ensuring the stability and reliability of critical trading platforms, implementing configuration changes, and participating in system design and problem resolution.

As a Platform Operations Engineer at Pico, you'll be part of a global company with offices in major financial centers including New York, Chicago, London, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. The position offers a hybrid working arrangement, providing flexibility while maintaining collaborative office presence. While some travel may be required, it's not expected to be frequent.

Responsibilities For Platform Operations Engineer

  • Design, deployment, and escalated problem resolution, for global client server solutions
  • Work with internal/external clients, operations, financial exchanges, and other Engineers to design, automate, research and develop
  • Ensure stability of all Pico managed platforms
  • Support deployment and maintenance of servers, storage and systems management products
  • Perform peer review of configurations scheduled for deployment
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for support escalations
  • Communicate effectively with clients and other Pico teams
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to other team members

Requirements For Platform Operations Engineer

Linux
Python
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working on large scale bare metal solutions
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with HP, Dell and/or Lenovo Intel-based physical hardware
  • RHCE certified or equivalent level of knowledge
  • Advanced understanding of Linux/Unix
  • Bash and Python scripting experience
  • Experience with network services (DNS, DHCP, FTP)
  • Knowledge of IP Protocols
  • Experience with Ansible or similar configuration management tools
  • Experience with SAN and NAS storage solutions
  • VMWare and KVM virtualization experience
  • Familiarity with WAN/LAN networking concepts
  • Understanding of JIRA as a ticketing system
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze, diagnose and resolve issues in a financial environment
