Description For Kubernetes Engineer

Porter is an innovative Platform as a Service (PaaS) that operates within users' own cloud infrastructure. The company has shown impressive growth, with an 8x increase in ARR since early 2022 and achieving profitability in Q3 2022. As a Kubernetes Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of infrastructure development, working with Porter's core technology that provisions and manages Kubernetes clusters across multiple cloud providers (AWS/GCP/Azure).

The role demands extensive experience with production Kubernetes environments. You'll be responsible for strengthening Porter's cluster infrastructure, conducting stress testing, and implementing improvements across various cloud platforms. Key responsibilities include enhancing cluster availability, optimizing latency, and developing robust recovery protocols.

This position offers unique opportunities to work on challenging projects such as:

  • Optimizing NGINX ingress controller performance for high-traffic scenarios
  • Implementing cluster backup solutions using Velero
  • Resolving networking bottlenecks to improve overall system performance

Porter, backed by notable investors including Venrock, Translink, and Y Combinator, is an open-source project that's gaining significant traction. The company's commitment to transparency is evident through their publicly accessible codebase on GitHub. As part of a small but growing team based in NYC (with remote options available), you'll have the opportunity to make a substantial impact on the platform's architecture and future direction.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in infrastructure as code (using tools like Terraform/Pulumi), experience with managed Kubernetes services (EKS, GKE, AKS), and a proven track record of implementing monitoring and automation solutions. This role offers the perfect blend of technical challenges, direct impact on product development, and the opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud technologies.
