Description For Director of Engineering

Qualcomm, a leader in connected car technologies, is seeking a Director of Engineering to drive innovation in automotive software development. This role combines technical leadership with strategic decision-making in the evolving landscape of automotive technology. The position focuses on advancing Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technologies, working with cutting-edge 4G/5G, ADAS, and Deep Learning systems.

The ideal candidate will lead software architecture and development initiatives, working directly with tier-1 suppliers and OEMs to create next-generation automotive solutions. This role requires deep technical expertise in embedded systems, operating systems, and automotive software standards, combined with strong leadership abilities to guide cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities For Director of Engineering

  • Work with T1/OEMs and understand customer requirements and create software architecture documents
  • Own and lead design, coding, testing, debugging, and integration efforts
  • Collaborate with individuals outside the software function (Hardware, Systems etc.)
  • Lead multi-functional efforts
  • Make key decisions that will have substantial impact over the organization
  • Plan, problem-solve, and prioritize complex tasks

Requirements For Director of Engineering

Linux
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in software design, including debugging, performance analysis
  • Working knowledge of operating systems and hypervisors like Linux, QNX and other RTOSs
  • System SW development experience including kernels, device drivers and BSP
  • Understanding of OS internals (scheduler, cache/memory handling, interrupts, MMU/SMMU, IPCs, virtualization/hypervisor)
  • Experience with storages, peripherals, and interfaces (UFS/EMMC, PCIe, SPI/UART/I2C, USB, Ethernet)
  • Understanding of secure and safe automotive SW architecture design and development
  • System level boot, power, performance, and latency optimizations
  • Knowledge of automotive SW development processes and standards (ASPCE, ISO26262 and ISO21434)
  • Excellent communication skills
