Description For Sr Staff Vehicle Guidance Engineer

At Qualcomm, we are transforming the automotive industry with our Snapdragon Digital Chassis and building the next generation software defined vehicle (SDV). Snapdragon Ride is an integral pillar of our Snapdragon Digital Chassis, aiming to address the complexity of autonomous driving and ADAS by leveraging high-performance, power-efficient SoC, industry-leading artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, and pioneering vision and drive policy stack.

We are looking for a lead engineer to help drive autonomous vehicle guidance, bridging disciplines of prediction, planning, and control to enable robust and capable closed loop operation. This is a leadership role, where the ideal candidate has a breadth of experience leading multiple, interdisciplinary teams across algorithm development and system design, software architecture and mapping to embedded ADAS hardware.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership and working with other senior leads to effectively operate the Automotive Vehicle Guidance department
  • Researching and developing novel algorithms for planning and decision making under uncertainty, robust control, and complex driving scenarios
  • Designing driving policies for complex maneuvers in urban environments
  • Implementing ideas in software (Python and C++) and collaborating with software engineers on development
  • Working closely with test engineers to develop test plans for simulations and real-world testing
  • Networking with cross-functional teams and staying updated on ADAS industry trends

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Ph.D. with 5+ years industry experience in behavior prediction, planning, vehicle controls, and modern AI techniques
  • Experience in autonomous driving or applied robotics domains
  • Strong programming skills in Python and C++
  • Experience with robust software design for safety-critical systems
  • Experience leading technical teams to deliver complete end-to-end solutions
  • Knowledge of vehicle path planning techniques, including numerical optimization, graph search, and AI-based approaches

Requirements For Sr Staff Vehicle Guidance Engineer

Python
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 6+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience
  • OR Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 5+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience
  • OR PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience
  • Experience in autonomous driving or applied robotics domains
  • 5+ years of experience with programming languages such as Python, C++ etc.
  • Experience with robust software design for safety-critical systems
  • Experience leading technical teams to deliver complete end-to-end solutions
  • Experience with simulators for automated driving
  • Experience with vehicle path planning techniques
