Description For Senior Data Engineer
Samba TV is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their team in Amsterdam. In this role, you will define, schedule, and monitor data pipelines with the objective of creating tools that improve development speed and increase visibility into the availability and properties of our growing collection of datasets. You will work closely with Data Science and other teams, leveraging your data expertise to help improve data models and processing algorithms while closely observing the bottlenecks in the development process to gather feedback needed to further improve our data platform tools.
Key responsibilities include:
- Automating existing business processes and supporting the visualization of key datasets
- Developing tools and frameworks to support self-service analytics
- Analyzing and improving the efficiency, scalability, and stability of core systems' data collection, storage, and retrieval processes
- Focusing on the performance of individual jobs in processing pipelines
- Mentoring members of other data teams and exemplifying coding and software design best practices
Requirements:
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Python
- Experience in JavaScript or willingness to learn
- Strong skills in SQL (BigQuery or similar)
- Experience with Apache Spark
- Commercial experience with cloud computing (preferably AWS or GCP)
- Familiarity with CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to interpret and analyze data
- Strong work ethics
Bonus points for:
- Strong mathematical inclination
- Familiarity with Kafka or Snowflake
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, InfluxDB

Responsibilities For Senior Data Engineer
- Automate existing business processes and support the visualization of key datasets
- Work with data scientists and other business partners across Europe to develop tools and frameworks to support self-service analytics
- Analyze and improve the efficiency, scalability, and stability of our core systems' data collection, storage, and retrieval processes
- Focus on the performance of individual jobs in our processing pipelines; understanding the algorithms that power them and the trade-offs and bottlenecks that affect their runtime and resource consumption
- Mentor members of other data teams that are eager to improve their software engineering skills; and be a role model who exemplifies coding and software design best practices
Requirements For Senior Data Engineer
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Python
