Description For Automation & Controls Engineer, Launch Pad (Starship)

SpaceX is revolutionizing space technology with the development of Starship, the world's most powerful launch vehicle capable of carrying over 100 metric tons to Earth orbit. As an Automation & Controls Engineer for the Launch Pad team, you'll be instrumental in developing critical control systems for Starship's launch infrastructure. This role combines electrical engineering expertise with software development, focusing on industrial automation and control systems for the launch mount and integration tower.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge space technology while being part of SpaceX's mission to enable human life on Mars. You'll be joining a highly talented team of engineers with an impressive track record in developing innovative automated solutions. The role demands expertise in both hardware and software aspects of control systems, from designing electrical panels and schematics to programming PLCs and creating user interfaces.

Key aspects of the role include architecting control systems, ensuring compliance with industrial standards, managing electrical installations, and troubleshooting complex systems. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, and have experience with industrial automation systems. This position requires hands-on experience with control panel design, PLC programming, and industrial communication protocols.

The role offers exposure to cutting-edge space technology and the opportunity to work on systems that will directly impact the future of space exploration. You'll be working at SpaceX's Starbase facility in Texas, where you'll contribute to the development and testing of launch pad systems for the most powerful rocket ever built. This position requires flexibility with working hours and travel, as well as the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
