Description For Automation & Controls Engineer, Launch Pad (Starship)

SpaceX is at the forefront of space exploration technology, developing the Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket system - the world's most powerful launch vehicle capable of carrying over 100 metric tons to Earth orbit. As an Automation & Controls Engineer at SpaceX, you'll join an elite team working on cutting-edge launch systems for Starship at their Starbase facility in Texas.

The role focuses on electrical control systems for the launch mount and integration tower, including I/O systems, motion systems, and supporting infrastructure. You'll be responsible for architecting and implementing complex control systems, designing industrial electrical panels, and creating sophisticated automation solutions for mission-critical launch operations.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work directly on technology that will enable human exploration of Mars. You'll be supported by a highly talented team of engineers with an impressive track record in developing innovative automated solutions. The role combines hands-on technical work with systems-level thinking, requiring expertise in PLC programming, electrical system design, and industrial automation.

Key aspects of the role include designing control systems for hazardous environments, implementing safety-compliant electrical systems, and creating maintainable automation code. You'll need to balance complex technical requirements with practical considerations like cost and lead-time constraints. The position requires someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly to changing priorities, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer who wants to make a direct impact on the future of space exploration while working with cutting-edge technology in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. The role offers exposure to unique technical challenges and the chance to work on systems that will literally help humanity reach for the stars.
