Description For Senior Materials Engineer, Vehicle Refurbishment

SpaceX is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer for Vehicle Refurbishment at their Cape Canaveral, FL location. This highly multidisciplinary role involves assessing and providing materials engineering solutions for SpaceX vehicles' reusability efforts. The ideal candidate should be familiar with polymeric processes, corrosion assessment, and prevention on metallic and composite structures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with engineers and technicians to solve complex material challenges
  • Maintaining knowledge of regulatory requirements and completing documentation
  • Investigating and analyzing integrated vehicle parts and flown coatings
  • Applying corrosion knowledge to assess, repair, and maintain vehicle components
  • Performing basic characterization using SEM/EDS/FTIR for material identification
  • Supporting lab maintenance and growth

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in materials or chemical engineering with 5+ years of experience in polymer physics and vehicle integration. Preferred skills include a Master's degree, familiarity with various materials, willingness to travel, and experience with laboratory instruments.

This position offers a competitive salary range of $125,000 - $175,000 per year, along with comprehensive benefits including medical coverage, 401(k), stock options, and paid time off. The role requires the ability to pass an Air Force background check and may involve working long hours and weekends as necessary.
