SpaceX, a pioneering space exploration company, is seeking a Senior Wireless Firmware Engineer for their innovative direct-to-cell program aimed at providing global cellular connectivity from space. This role sits at the intersection of wireless communications and space technology, offering a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge satellite-based cellular systems.

The position requires expertise in both wireless signal processing algorithms and high-performance software development. You'll be responsible for developing novel wireless signal processing algorithms, implementing optimized software for satellites and ground stations, and solving complex interdisciplinary challenges. Working closely with wireless systems engineers and protocol firmware engineers, you'll play a crucial role in accelerating wireless PHY development.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of experience in wireless technology and C/C++ programming, preferably with an advanced degree in a STEM field. Your work will directly impact the future of global communications by developing and implementing physical layer algorithms for satellite-based 4G/5G systems.

Responsibilities For Sr. Wireless Firmware Engineer (Direct To Cell)

  • Design and implement physical layer (PHY) algorithms for satellite-based 4G/5G eNodeB/gNodeB
  • Develop optimized signal processing algorithms running on resource-constrained CPUs
  • Develop models and run simulations to analyze and validate overall system performance
  • Design, implement, test, maintain, and document wireless PHY and MAC layers
  • Identify and debug complex performance issues across wireless PHY and MAC layers
  • Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews

Requirements For Sr. Wireless Firmware Engineer (Direct To Cell)

  • 5+ Years of experience working with wireless technology
  • 5+ Years of C/C++ or Matlab coding experience
  • Master's or PhD degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or STEM discipline preferred
  • Familiarity with 3GPP 4G/5G physical layer design
  • Experience with Linux command line, git-based version control, and python programming
  • Strong debugging and performance optimization skills
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Must be U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee (ITAR requirement)
