Description For Internship, Vehicle Performance Modeling Engineer

Tesla's Vehicle Performance Modeling team is seeking talented interns to join their system architecture and modeling efforts for Winter/Spring 2025. This exciting opportunity is based in Palo Alto, California, where you'll work alongside industry experts in developing and maintaining comprehensive vehicle models for Tesla's cutting-edge electric vehicles.

The role involves working cross-functionally with all powertrain engineering teams, contributing to architecture design, setting requirements, and predicting vehicle performance for Tesla's impressive product lineup, including Cybertruck, Semi-truck, Robotaxi, and Roadster. As an intern, you'll be deeply involved in the development, implementation, and utilization of component and system models.

The position requires a strong foundation in engineering principles, with experience in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and 3D modeling software. You'll apply your knowledge of numerical computation, differential equations, and linear algebra to create and analyze performance metrics for vehicle motion. The ideal candidate should have a passion for EV powertrain technologies and a desire to contribute to building the world's highest performance vehicles.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position requiring a minimum commitment of 12 weeks, with the possibility of extension through Summer 2025. Responsibilities For Internship, Vehicle Performance Modeling Engineer

  • Create, develop and maintain performance metrics for vehicle motion
  • Develop scripts in MATLAB to analyze low voltage power consumption
  • Generate front-end python/dash module for visualization of key statistical aggregates
  • Collect data and analyze to validate the modeling environment

Requirements For Internship, Vehicle Performance Modeling Engineer

Python
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerodynamics Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Python, Catia, CAD/AutoCAD, Revit, 3DX or other 3D modelling software
  • Experience using MATLAB/Simulink for modeling physical systems
  • Proficiency in numerical computation, differential equations, and linear algebra
  • First-principle physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Strong communication skills and preference for working in teams
