Description For Mechanical Design Engineer, Closures Mechanisms, Semi

As a Closures Systems Design Engineer at Tesla, you will be responsible for conceiving, architecting, designing, and engineering the dynamic exterior systems of Tesla vehicles. You'll work alongside pioneering Designers and Engineers through all stages of the product design cycle: from initial sketch and clay modeling, through architecture and design, and finally to validation and product launch. You'll be part of the team that creates and executes some of the most notable hallmarks of Tesla design.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting automotive body and closure system development for the Tesla vehicle product line
  • Conceptualizing, designing, engineering, and launching Closures Systems components for Mechanisms/Electro-Mechanisms
  • Achieving innovation-driven closure system targets for appearance, function, quality, cost, and weight
  • Establishing system level architecture and functionality
  • Collaborating with the Tesla design and styling studio
  • Supporting manufacturing processes and material selections
  • Optimizing designs with appropriate analytical and physical assessments
  • Managing and collaborating with key suppliers
  • Launching products in a mass production setting

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of five years industry experience in consumer product design or related field
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling using CATIA V5/V6 or similar CAD software
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and mechanics of materials
  • Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) preferred
  • Knowledge of CAE simulation software, proficiency in Ansys preferred
