Checklist for entering a new company

Hi all, I am going to transfer to Tiktok as a lead MLE next month.

I have 2 months notice period and I was wondering if anyone has any checklists on what I should do during transition so that I can start fresh and ramp up quickly.

I come from FAANG background and going to a startup-ish culture is an exciting but scary prospect for me (especially with the reduced work life balance).

Tips and checklists of links to Taro videos or other resources are welcome. Thank you

I've never worked for FAANG or Tiktok but here's my thoughts on how I'd approach it.

    1. If you live near the office, go in everyday for the first 90 days - minimum (even if remote option is available)
    2. Setup 1:1s with everyone on the team (design, product, all engineers)
      1. Ask them questions to understand what a successful engineer at your level looks like.
      2. Identify 1-2 high performers on the team/within the eng org - understand their workflow - how they prioritize work, how they unblock themselves, any productivity tips that are specific to eng tiktok work, etc.
    3. Ask your manager to help set expectations, what do they expect you to accomplish in first 30, 60, 90 days at the job.
    4. At 90 days at the job, setup 1:1 with your manager and review with them what you accomplished in the first 90 days, ask if you are meeting expectations and ask for feedback and where you can improve.

My list is fairly similar to Josh's - Here's my take:

    1. Take a good break in between jobs so you come in feeling refreshed!
    2. Make sure you have a weekly 1 on 1 with your manager complete with running meeting notes. Build trust as fast as you can.
    3. Set up 1 on 1s with everyone on your team, especially since you're a lead.
    4. Take a bunch of small tasks in your first month and crush them with outstanding delivery, particularly with code quality. Get familiar with the workflow and show why you are a lead.
    5. Create some sort of onboarding doc with clear expectations.

Best of luck with your new job at TikTok!
