Description For Systems Engineer II, AWS Operations Management (AWSOM)

AWS Managed Operations (MO) is seeking a Systems Engineer II to join their newly founded organization established in April 2023. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with some of the largest software systems ever built. As part of the AWSOM team, you'll be responsible for driving improvements in reliability, performance, and efficiency of AWS regions while reducing operational toil through automation.

The position combines hands-on systems engineering with strategic long-term improvements, requiring someone who thrives in a 24/7 production environment. You'll be part of AWS's mission to be Earth's Best Employer, working in an inclusive culture that values diverse experiences and continuous learning.

The role sits within the AWS Operations Management (AWSOM) team, which is launching a new offering to drive security, availability, performance, and efficiency improvements across AWS Regions globally. Responsibilities For Systems Engineer II, AWS Operations Management (AWSOM)

  • Dive deep into, operate, and improve large-scale software systems
  • Drive technical, business, and cultural change to improve reliability, performance, and efficiency
  • Own day-to-day operations for AWS Regions
  • Improve availability, reliability, latency, performance and efficiency
  • Balance daily operations with long-term software engineering to reduce operational toil

Requirements For Systems Engineer II, AWS Operations Management (AWSOM)

  • 3+ years of Systems Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) or Enterprise Production experience in Linux environments
  • 3+ years of operating in a 24/7 production environment
  • 3+ years of relevant systems engineering, or systems administration experience using Linux, networking, and storage systems
  • 1+ years experience with a scripting language: Python, Perl, Shell, Bash, Ruby, PowerShell or similar languages
