Description For Staff Product Engineer

Axle is revolutionizing the insurance industry by building a universal API for insurance data access. As a fast-growing, seed-stage startup backed by Google's Gradient Ventures and Y Combinator, we're making it possible for consumers to securely share their insurance data with trusted companies in seconds.

As a Staff Product Engineer at Axle, you'll be at the forefront of expanding how insurance works in everyday life. This founding engineer role involves building and evolving both customer-facing interfaces and core platform services. You'll drive feature development from conception through implementation, help set the company's technical direction, and mentor the growing engineering team.

The role requires expertise in distributed systems, API design, and production-quality development using Node.js and TypeScript. You'll build scalable services and data pipelines, manage product deployments, and work closely with customers to iterate on solutions. Experience with event-driven architectures, authorization standards, and system patterns like state machines is essential.

We offer competitive compensation ($150K-$220K), equity (0.30%-1.00%), and comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision coverage and unlimited vacation. Our hybrid work environment balances in-person collaboration with flexibility.

Join us at the perfect time - we're well-funded with proven revenue, offering early-stage upside without the typical risk. You'll help shape our engineering culture and build transformative infrastructure for the $3T insurance industry. We value diversity and maintain an inclusive workplace welcoming to all backgrounds and perspectives.

Based in New York, we're backed by top investors including Google's AI fund and angels from Plaid and Cox Automotive. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on a fundamental industry while working with cutting-edge technology and an exceptional team.
