Description For Lead Data Engineer

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is at the forefront of reimagining magical viewing experiences for the world's most beloved stories while transforming Disney's media business for the future. As a Lead Data Engineer, you'll join the Product & Data Engineering team responsible for developing Disney's world-class consumer-facing products, including streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.

This role focuses on building and maintaining Identity and Device Data products that serve as the source of truth for customer identifiers and devices. You'll be working with scalable, fault-tolerant data processing pipelines handling both real-time and batch data at massive scale. The position offers an opportunity to work on products that reach millions of consumers globally across platforms like Apple, Android, Smart TVs, and game consoles.

The role combines technical leadership with hands-on development, requiring expertise in distributed systems, big data technologies, and cloud infrastructure. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and drive technical decisions that impact Disney's streaming platforms. The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $152,200 to $223,600 depending on location, plus benefits and potential bonuses.

Responsibilities For Lead Data Engineer

  • Build and maintain product-driven initiatives to improve and expand Identity and Device data product offerings
  • Enhance/improve the underlying codebase to be extensible, reusable, and maintainable
  • Enhance/redesign existing data models
  • Collaborate with squad, Product Managers, Designers, QA, Operations
  • Participate in on-call support
  • Serve as an advanced resource to other Data Engineers
  • Participate in code reviews and problem-solving

Requirements For Lead Data Engineer

Python
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer science or related field
  • 7+ years of related big data engineering experience
  • Deep hands-on experience with distributed systems
  • Strong Python, Scala and SQL skills
  • Strong Experience with MPP or cloud database technology
  • Deep understanding of Data Modeling techniques
  • Operational experience in multi-system/services production environment
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Experience with data integration and orchestration toolsets
  • Experience with AWS S3
